If you are reading this, then you probably know I have a goal of visiting 30 countries before I reach age 30. To date, I am on country number 21 and my 30th birthday is in May of 2023.
Since this is not the typical life of a 29 year old I get a lot of questions like “how do you know what countries visit?”, “how do you know if they are they safe or not?”, and “what’s your favorite so far?” As great as all those questions are, there is one question that I get asked more than any other and that is…. “How do you afford to pay for your travels?” This is by far the most common questions, so let’s talk about it.
Since my first trip, my travels have been a completely self funded venture (or adventure 😊). I saved as much as I could from my acting, modeling, and comedy gigs. I worked side hustles, taught myself to trade stocks, created merchandise and budgeted as best as possible all before packing away everything and leaving Los Angeles, Ca to see the world. Man oh man, I did not know what I was getting myself into…but in a good way. This journey has been a test of my risk management and budgeting skills all in the name of honest global exploration and I wouldn't change any experience.
Of course there are always unexpected obstacles that come up that I absolutely could not have planned for. Things like an ATM machine keeping my debit card (Greece), airbnb issues (Chile), or getting lost (All countries). You know, typical travel stuff. However, sometimes an issue will arise that has the potential to derail the entire vision. You know, something like an emergency root canal.
